Design management and basement strategy across a beachfront mixed-use redevelopment — transitioning an existing DWall and imported HD steel structure into a revised staged donut slab methodology.
The Esplanade is a major proposed beachfront hotel and apartment development at Surfers Paradise. The redevelopment incorporates an existing multi-level basement and diaphragm wall retention structure originally designed for full top-down construction using large hot-rolled HD steel sections imported from Europe.
Maple Consults provided design management and basement strategy support — transitioning the original top-down solution into a revised staged donut slab methodology, developing the excavation sequencing strategy and integrating the existing basement infrastructure into the updated development scheme. The core challenge was working within an existing partially constructed basement designed around a methodology no longer viable, and developing a buildable alternative within the constraints of the existing DWall system and imported steel sections already in place.
